A ball gown is the splendor of countless layers of chiffon and organza, the embodiment of the female dream of luxury and beauty. Everything that delights us in the legendary dresses of Christian Dior!

Becoming the queen of the ball - every girl dreamed about this, not only in the 50s. Since ancient times, a magnificent ball gown was considered a symbol of the holiday dedicated to entering the adult world. In the postwar years, women especially yearned for the luxury and abundance of fabrics, the beauty of forms, since the fashion of the 40s with its square silhouettes, due to the rigid influence of time, did not satisfy these requests.
The first sensational collection of Christian Dior, which he presented to the amazed public in Paris, was perceived as a provocation and caused a lot of controversy. Today, these dresses would have been unthinkable: a super-slim waist, a deep neckline, tight-fitting bodices, corsets and puffy skirts that expose the ankles. "I focus on the curves of the female body in my models," - said the designer. The romanticized femininity in Dior's dresses was unexpected and seemed to be borrowed from another century.
Dior was severely criticized for the fact that in conditions of hunger and poverty he allowed the wasteful use of expensive fabrics, up to 30-40 meters per skirt. Dior's fashion, on the other hand, exuded seductive elegance that had never been seen before. After viewing his collection, Harper's Bazaar magazine’s editor-in-chief Carmel Snow, judging the dresses, said the words that later became the name of the new style: New Look. The accusation that haute couture clothing is available only to a few rich people, Dior denied the phrase, brilliant from a business point of view: "I sell ideas!" - and, after consulting with a fortuneteller, because he was superstitious, he invented a license fee in fashion. Thanks to this, New Look soon spread all over the world - everywhere they wanted Dior!
His creations were in time and in Germany. The star of European cinema Romy Schneider as the Austrian Empress Sissy excited millions of hearts, and magazines in record runs published articles about the fabulous fate of the American actress Grace Kelly and facts about the biography of the wife of the Persian shah Soraya. And everyone wore dresses from Dior! Twice a year, he presented new collections, varying silhouettes from A to Y, and for a decade his models were considered the alphabet of fashion, which was easy to follow.
