The fabric turned yellow from long storage, and before the snow-white T-shirts and underwear became gray after many washes? We tell you how to return things to their original whiteness at home.

The peculiarity of white fabrics is that each speck and pollution on them is much more noticeable than on fabrics of other colors. Plus - from long-term storage or frequent washing, white clothes and underwear often acquire a yellowish or gray tint, which deprives things of a neat appearance. How to return white things to their former appearance?

1. Chlorine bleaches - for cotton and linen

Chlorine-containing bleaches work well with linen and cotton fabrics without impurities. You can soak things before washing in the solution of the product or add it when washing - follow the instructions on the package of the product and be sure to wear gloves to prevent contact of the skin of the hands with bleach or its solution. Attention: for fabrics containing a certain - albeit small - percentage of synthetic fibers, this method is not recommended - chlorine can, on the contrary, enhance yellowness.

Pros: chlorine bleaches are fast, inexpensive.

Minuses: quite aggressive to the fabric.

2.Boiling - for cotton and linen

Another long-known way to bleach cotton and linen is by boiling clothes. In modern conditions, you can use the machine wash at 90 degrees. Be careful: this method is only suitable for cotton and linen fabrics without impurities. Do not boil things with a pattern, T-shirts with inscriptions and so on.

Pros: boiling can bleach the fabric without the use of any substances.

Minuses: quite aggressive to the fabric method.

3. Oxygen bleaches - for different types of fabrics

Oxygen bleaches contain a substance called sodium percarbonate. When washing, it decomposes into water, soda and oxygen. Oxygen bleaches, cleanses, disinfects and eliminates odors, and soda increases the effect of its action, further softening the water. Typically, oxygen bleach is added to the powder during washing. Most often it can be used for fabrics of different compositions.

Pros: works at a temperature of 30 degrees, it is environmentally friendly, non-aggressive to fabric.

Minuses: removes not all spots.

4. Optical brighteners - for different types of fabrics

The essence of the action of optical brighteners is that they add white things to white, as if re-staining them. Most often, optical brighteners are part of special powders or additives for washing white linen, and they are also dry cleaned. But you can find them in a "pure form." However, for each type of fabric, as a rule, you need your own type of bleach.

Pros: Optical brighteners fill the white color on fabrics, complementing the work of other products.

Minuses: difficult to find, for each type of fabric you need your own kind of bleach, do not fight with many types of spots.

5. Home methods - for a variety of, including delicate fabrics

The task of returning the whiteness to things becomes especially difficult when it comes to thin, delicate fabrics - from such, for example, women's underwear is sewn. Also included are wool and silk. Such items must not be boiled or treated with aggressive chemical bleach. "Home" methods are suitable for them - watch the video.
