Ideal at first glance, jeans on closer inspection may not be so ideal. Check the jeans for these five points to make sure that they will surely please you.

Volumes are written on how to choose the perfect jeans - if you wish, you can find many recommendations on which model will decorate this or that type of figure. We in our cheat sheet decided to pay attention to those mistakes that are most often made not when choosing the height of the fit or the width of the jeans leg, but in other parameters that are less significant at first glance. Not being as obvious as the wrong choice of model or size of jeans, these little things, however, can overshadow the joy of owning a perfect and long-awaited pair.

So, you are in the fitting room. Selected jeans fit perfectly. It's time to check them more closely to eliminate not the most obvious mistakes.

Five mistakes we often make when choosing jeans:

1. Do not read the label

Ideally (not loose and not tight) sitting in the fitting room jeans after a couple of days of intensive use may be a little too big - the fit will not be so flawless. This happens if elastane is present in the fabric from which they are sewn - and the higher the percentage of elastane, the more jeans can increase in size over time.

In general, any denim stretches a little during socks, even from 100% cotton, but if there is elastane in the composition, the stretch will be more. Look at the composition of the fabric on the sewn-in label: if the percentage of elastane is greater than 2, try a smaller one. First of all, this concerns tight-fitting models, but also classics, too: in the fabric for women’s jeans, elastane is added more often and more than for men.

Please note: jeans with elastane in the composition should be washed at a temperature not exceeding 30 degrees, do not rinse with conditioner after washing (it can destroy elastic fibers) and do not iron with steam (hot steam damages the fiber structure). In an automatic dryer, it is better not to dry them. If you do not follow these rules, the elastane will collapse, and jeans can stretch very much.

2. We do not check the quality of painting

Any jeans can even be molted, even purchased from a proven, well-established brand. This is a feature of classic denim: its fibers are dyed with some “margin”, which allows jeans to age beautifully during long-term operation, fading. But all this is about classic cotton denim dyed with traditional indigo. Modern jeans can be sewn from almost anything - and also painted with different dyes. It is difficult to guess the durability and quality of the color. One question is how firmly the paint will hold and how jeans will look after several washings. Another is whether new jeans will dye your underwear and even your skin.

How to check the color quality of jeans: Moisten a little paper towel, a piece of paper or a light handkerchief, and gently rub the jeans cloth from the outside and from the inside in some inconspicuous place. If the napkin is very stained after the test on the front side of the fabric, it is very likely that the jeans noticeably fade after washing. If the napkin has stained and after the test on the wrong side of the fabric, jeans can stain your clothes and skin.

Strongly shedding jeans are recommended to soak in a solution of vinegar (vinegar fixes the dye), but this method does not always work.

3. We do not scrutinize the quality of fabric, accessories and tailoring

First of all, this applies to inexpensive brands that do not specialize in tailoring jeans, but caution will not be unnecessary in other cases. Rejoiced at the fact that the jeans sat perfectly on the figure, look also at the quality of the fabric, the evenness of the seams, the quality and installation of the fittings, the accuracy of the processing of the seams, how well the zipper is sewn and the loops are sewn. Also pay attention to how the hem of the jeans is hemmed. This is especially important for models with narrow legs - putting on and removing them makes it easier to tear the seam. Professionals believe: it is better if a chain stitch is used at the bottom rather than a shuttle stitch - it is considered more durable.

How to make DIY scuffs on jeans

4.We do not look at the shape and location of scuffs

Choosing jeans with artificially made scuffs (or aging pants on our own), we do not always pay attention to how this decor affects the perception of the figure in jeans from the side. Noticeable at times more than we expect, these light spots are clearly visible on the main dark background of denim. Scuffs give the effect of optical illusion - well-executed, they can lengthen the legs and add volume wherever I would like. But the manufacturer does not always work subtly - or it may turn out that the location of the scuffs on the jeans does not coincide with the "geography" of a particular body. After evaluating the fit of jeans, do not forget to pay attention to how the appearance of the figure of attrition is changing. This is best seen a little from afar - a few steps away from the mirror and evaluate the figure from the side, not forgetting about the rear view.

New DIY pockets for jeans

5. Do not evaluate the location of the back pockets

Another important point that we pay attention to when choosing jeans is not as often as we would like: the size and location of the back pockets. Somehow, set the goal to feel the difference and try to try on several pairs of jeans in succession with different pockets sewn in different ways. You will be surprised how pockets can change the look "from the rear"! They can emphasize the waist and hip line, visually remove excess volume or, conversely, add it, make the rear view more seductive or distract attention from their location. In short, the size and location of the back pockets on the jeans is an excellent, albeit somewhat underestimated, way of visually correcting the figure.
